About Credex Energy Mines
Credex Energy Mines Private Limited is an Indian company developing durable carbon removal projects. We are based in Pune, Maharashtra, and we work across India's agricultural regions.
We were established on a straightforward observation. India has an enormous quantity of biomass that is currently burned or discarded, a serious need to improve degraded agricultural soil, and almost no infrastructure converting either problem into durable carbon removal. All three of those things can be addressed by the same activity.
What we believe
Removal is different from avoidance.
The world needs both, but they are not interchangeable, and the difference should not be blurred. We work only on removal.
Permanence has to be provable.
A claim about centuries is worth nothing unless it can be measured today. Every project we develop is designed so that the carbon can be quantified, tested and independently verified.
The land matters as much as the carbon.
Our work returns carbon to agricultural soil in a form that improves it. If a project delivers climate benefit but nothing to the people farming that land, we think it has been designed badly.
Honesty about stage.
We are a young company with projects in development, not an established operator. We would rather be trusted than impressive.
Our focus
We concentrate on India for reasons that are practical rather than sentimental. The biomass is here in extraordinary quantity. The soil needs it. The agricultural systems that generate the residue are large and organised enough to work with. And very few people are doing this at scale.
Our present work centres on agricultural and dryland biomass in Maharashtra, with a view to extending across India's agricultural belt as our projects prove out.

Who is behind Credex
Credex was founded by Karan Dangat, who holds a Master's in Human Resource Management from Leeds University Business School in the United Kingdom.
His route into carbon removal came through agriculture rather than climate. He built and ran a cold chain warehousing business, established to address a specific and costly problem: the volume of Indian agricultural produce lost after harvest simply for want of storage. Cold chain infrastructure extends shelf life, reduces spoilage and protects the income of the farmers who grew the crop.
Running that business raised a second question. Cold storage is energy-intensive, and a facility running around the clock has a carbon footprint of its own. The response was to reduce it — moving to environmentally responsible refrigerants and building solar generation to supply the warehouse's continuous power demand rather than drawing it from the grid.
Cold chain addresses agricultural produce that is lost after harvest. Carbon removal addresses agricultural residue that is burned after harvest. Both are waste streams in a system that can afford neither.
Credex follows the same line of thinking, further upstream. Both waste streams can be turned into something worth more than the loss they currently represent.
Looking further ahead
Biochar is where we are starting because it works today, in Indian conditions, at a cost that makes sense.
It is not where we intend to finish. As advanced carbon capture and removal technologies mature — direct air capture, enhanced weathering, engineered storage — we intend to develop and fund projects using them here. India will need every credible removal pathway available to it, and most of them are currently absent from the country entirely.
We are open to partnership and investment in that longer arc as well as in the projects we are building now.
